Bird Watching
Over 296 species of birds are to be found in the Ixtapa area and one of the best places to start is early in the morning on the Palma Real Golf Course which is alive with the sounds of birds. Palma Real is also designated as a Nature Preserve. Another wonderful area to bird-watch is along the bicycle path through the Ecological Preserve which skirts the mangrove forest and travels through the tropical forest to Playa Linda.

Cycling
Cycling is very popular in Ixtapa and Fonatur has built many paved pathways solely for cycling. The paths start near the Marina and one route goes south running parallel to Ixtapa Bvld and at the round-about in front of the Bayview Grand, turns left to follow the border of the Palma Real Golf Course on its eastern side and then climbs up the hill and in down into Zihuatanejo.
The other route starts at the Marina and Golf Course and crosses the boulevard entering the Ecological Reserve as you ride east of the hill along the lovely trail through the forest and then along the edge of the mangrove swamp.
This is a very picturesque ride and the trail is flat and wide. The trail exits from the Ecological Reserve at the Playa Linda bus terminal where there is a great viewing place for the crocodiles, iguanas, and birds.
This is a favourite viewing spot for tourists and across the street is the souvenir market and the jetty to catch the boat across to Isla Ixtapa.
