The Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo area is unique in that the two cities could not be more different: Ixtapa was purpose-built in the 1970s as a tourism center with wide boulevards, cycling paths, a modern marina, and a planned approach to the accommodation areas and commercial areas. Only 8 km away, Zihuatanejo is a 500 year old fishing village with a long history and an authentic Mexican feel with markets, fishmongers, and everyday Mexican life going on at 100 miles an hour in the crowded streets. The duality of the area makes it a wonderful area to explore as you can do the beach holiday and still mix it up with the locals.
Moderate temperature and warm water (80-84 degrees F) year around make for weather that can only be described as picture perfect – particularly at sunset.
The airport is only 20 minutes away from either city and you can find everything you need in these two very different towns.
